La Grande Dame x Yayoi Kusama: A Message of Hope & Optimism

Veuve Clicquot and iconic Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama are sending the world a cheerful message with a unique and colorful creation celebrating the House's new vintage, La Grande Dame 2012. The original creation is Yayoi Kusama's vibrant tribute to La Grande Dame of Champagne, Madame Clicquot.

Yayoi Kusama's name for her creation, My Heart That Blooms in The Darkness of The Night, is even more striking in the wake of the recent global crisis. The opulent flower is an original creation that symbolizes vital energy, love and celebration of life.

    La Grande Dame 2012

La Grande Dame's DNA centers on the excellence of Pinot Noir and the extraordinary quality of its grapes mainly from Grands Crus and the House's historic plots, among the most prestigious in Champagne: AÌÀ, in the Grande Valle de la Marne, and Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay and Bouzy in the Montagne de Reims. La Grande Dame's wine making prowess lies in the magic of the blend to achieve harmony through strength and delicacy.

At 90% Pinot Noir, La Grande Dame 2012's blend is all about this grape, magnified by 10% Chardonnay. La Grande Dame 2012, with its versatile composition driven by Veuve Clicquot's extraordinary savoir-faire, is not only a delight today, but also a promise of celebration for years to come.

    Tasting Notes

Initial notes of white flowers on the nose, such as jasmine, honeysuckle and vine flowers can be felt and then opens with fruitier nuances of apple, pear and peach. A few notes of fresh almond and frangipane complete the bouquet.

In the mouth, the cuvee reveals more complex aromas: dried apricot, hazelnuts, honey and sugar candy. Silky textures give the wine its personality, elegance and character. A nice minerality and smoked notes add complexity. The aging has imparted particular depth and power to the wine.

    Pairing

Fresh vegetables and herbs, quail and sea urchin.

    First Collaboration

Veuve Cliquot and Yayoi Kusama first collaborated in a charity auction in Tokyo in 2006.
