Neal Martin: The 2016 Aromes de Pavie, the Deuxieme Vin of Chateau Pavie, is a blend of 66% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped at 42 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 50% new oak. It has a powerful and voluminous bouquet with sweet ripe black cherries, blueberry and a dash of black pepper. The palate is full-bodied with a firm grip in the mouth, a powerful and demonstrative Aromes de Pavie that just needs a little less new oak on the finish. I appreciate the weight and concentration here... it just needs to muster a little more refinement.
